President Donald Trump on Friday said that negotiators from the US and China will be resuming trade talks on Monday, June 9, in London, reported Bloomberg. This comes as the two nations look to resolve the disputes around trade, especially tariffs and technology.
“I am pleased to announce that Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and United States Trade Representative, Ambassador Jamieson Greer, will be meeting in London on Monday, June 9, 2025, with Representatives of China, with reference to the Trade Deal,” Trump was quoted as saying in the report. “The meeting should go very well,” he added.
A recent 90-minute phone call between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping helped ease rising tensions between the US and China over access to critical minerals. This call paved the way for new trade talks, following a stalled agreement reached during a May meeting in Switzerland that had temporarily paused tariffs.
Trump said that he would visit China after an invitation during the call with his counterpart Jinping.
“We had a really good conversation. He invited me to China and I invited him… We both accepted. I will be going there with the first lady at some point and he will be coming here,” Trump told reporters in the White House.
The Trump-Xi phone call was their first known formal contact since the US leader took office in January. The last conversation between the two took place in January before the US President’s inauguration, as per a Bloomberg report.
