
BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 25. A total of 656 new
jobs were created in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic
regions from January through April 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistics Committee indicates
that out of these, 515 new positions were opened in Karabakh, while
141 were created in East Zangezur. Within Karabakh, the city of
Khankendi accounted for the majority of new jobs with 283, and
within East Zangezur, the district of Jabrayil led with 31 new
positions.
Nationwide, 23,386 new jobs were established in the first
quarter of 2025, with 90.6 percent of them in the non-state sector.
Of all new positions, 74.4 percent were created in Baku, 0.9
percent in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and 24.7 percent
across other regions. Among these, 11.4 percent were in
Absheron-Khizi, 2.4 percent in Guba-Khachmaz, 2.2 percent in
Karabakh, 1.7 percent in Lankaran-Astara, 1.5 percent in
Ganja-Dashkasan, 1.3 percent in Sheki-Zagatala, 1.1 percent in
Shirvan-Salyan, and 0.6 percent each in Mil-Mugan, Mountainous
Shirvan, Gazakh-Tovuz, Central Aran, and Eastern Zangazur economic
regions.
Moreover, around 2,700 jobs were closed across the country
during the same period. Of these, 48.4 percent were in the
non-state sector. The closures were largely due to reductions in
existing companies (79.9 percent), while the remaining 20.1 percent
resulted from the cessation of operations of enterprises and
institutions.
