Spanish police arrest naked German tourists at a shopping centre
The two women, aged 23 and 27, were arrested after a passing motorist saw them at the parking lot of the Nueva Condomina shopping centre in Murcia, southeastern Spain.
“A local police patrol was carrying out public safety work in the area, [and] went to the scene after receiving a tip-off from the witness and found two naked women,” a police spokesman said. “One of them was performing obscene acts and the other was recording them with her phone.”
The German tourists fled the scene in their vehicle but were eventually stopped by police. They face four fines, including a penalty for indecent exposure for which they will have to pay €150 each.
Von der Leyen to visit Valencia flood areas with victims’ associations
Victims associations of the Valencia floods met yesterday with the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen, in Brussels.
Von der Leyen promised that she would visit the affected areas of Valencia, although she did not confirm a date.
The Commission head did not meet with victims in Valencia when she attended the European PP Congress in the city in late-April. The Congress, which was initially expected to be dampened by the appearance of regional President Carlos Mazón and protests against him, was overshadowed by the national blackout the day before.
A small protest was held at the city’s Arts and Sciences complex.

Madrid to limit free tours in Plaza Mayor
Madrid city council has released a plan to protect the Plaza Mayor, one of the capital’s most iconic landmarks, from overcrowding.
Among the recommendations are limiting vehicles due to their high impact on pedestrian mobility, controlling so-called “tourist saturation” by regulating “free tours”, restricting large events held in the square and improving the paving, street furniture and lighting.
After a year’s analysis and preparation, the report plan found that Plaza Mayor is “integrity” is endangered due to “changes in use and the excessive touristification of the space” in recent years which can be seen “in the dirt, maintenance problems, [and] disaffection on the part of local people.”

Spanish Congress rejects tax on yachts and private jets
The Spanish Congress on Tuesday rejected a new tax on emissions produced by private jets and yachts. The initiative aimed to reduce the environmental impact of the “abusive” forms of luxury transport.
En Comú MPs Aina Vidal and Júlia Boada, signatories of the proposal, argued that although the use of private jets has historically been linked to business trips, there is currently a “clear process of change” and both forms are increasingly used in tourism.
However, the proposal was voted down by right-wing parties Vox, PP and Junts, who described it as “populist”.
