Spanish police on Sunday arrested the fourth and final crew member of a drug traffickers’ boat that rammed a patrol vessel and killed two officers during a chase last year.
Two other officers were injured in the February 2024 collision in the Bay of Cadiz, whose seas have been the scene of several confrontations and major drug seizures.
“Arrest of the last member of the crew of the drug trafficking boat used in the murder of two agents in Cadiz,” the Guardia Civil said in a statement.
“With this arrest, all those responsible for the tragic events are now in the hands of the Spanish authorities,” the statement said.
The affair caused a stir in Spain, with videos showing the high-speed chase in the dead of the night going viral on social media.
Police had announced in September 2024 the arrest of a 32-year-old man described by the interior ministry as “directly responsible for the deaths”.
Two more arrests followed two months later.

Spain is a major transit point for narcotics smuggled into Europe via North Africa.
In late August 2024, a drug trafficker died in a separate boat chase with officers as he attempted to offload several dozen ballots of hashish in the Guadalquivir River near Cadiz.
