President Donald Trump announced he will nominate Mike Waltz to be the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations just hours after reports came out that the national security adviser was getting ousted from his current position.
Waltz’s removal from his post, and nomination for another, follows a tumultuous time that included the leaked Signal chat scandal.
“From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and, as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first,” Trump wrote.
In the interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will wear two hats and serve as national security adviser, Trump added.
Trump had previously nominated Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) to be his ambassador to the UN but withdrew her for consideration in March.
