Good news for about 4 lakh gig and platform workers in Telangana. The State Government has decided to introduce an exclusive Act for the welfare of gig and platform workers on May 1, International Workers’ Day.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy asked the officials to call for public opinion on the draft bill and incorporate the suggestions and feedback from various stakeholders by April 25.

The Chief Minister has taken the decision after meeting representatives of gig workers and representatives of unions.

The State Labour Department has already prepared the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Bill draft to provide welfare, job security, insurance facilities and other rights to the workers. During the meeting, the officials briefed the Chief Minister about the provisions of the bill.

The Chief Minister said the Government introduced an accident insurance cover ( ₹5 lakh) for gig and platform workers soon after assuming power in December 2023.
