The central government on Saturday announced the recipients of the Padma Awards 2025. The Padma Awards are one of India’s highest civilian honours, announced annually on the eve of Republic Day.

The Padma Vibhushan has been awarded to Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy, Justice (Retd.) Jagdish Singh Khehar, Kumudini Rajnikant Lakhia, Lakshminarayana Subramaniam, MT Vasudevan Nair (Posthumous), Osamu Suzuki (Posthumous), and Sharda Sinha (Posthumous).

While Arijit Singh and R Ashwin are among the Padma Shri recipients this year.

The awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher order), and Padma Shri (distinguished service).

This year, the government has awarded 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards.

The awards are given in various disciplines and fields of activities like art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.

The Padma Awards are conferred on the recommendations made by the Padma Awards Committee, which is constituted by the prime minister every year.

The President confers these awards at a ceremonial function held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, usually in March or April every year.
