The Centre on Friday appointed the new head of the aviation safety regulator as well as the new chairman of the Food Corporation of India.

As per the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre Faiz Ahmed Kidwai is the new Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Currently, Kidwai holds the position of additional secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.

He succeeds D.C. Sharma, who retires at the end of the month. The position was manned by Sharma as an additional charge. He also holds the position of joint director general at DGCA.

The appointment comes amid an ongoing tussle between pilots and airlines over the new flight duty time limitations (FDTL), which have yet to be implemented.

Besides, ACC appointed IAS officer Ashutosh Agnihotri as Chairman & Managing Director of the Food Corporation of India, in the rank and pay of additional secretary to the government of India.

At present, Agnihotri is the additional secretary, Department of Home, Ministry of Home Affairs.

Notably, the FCI Chairman’s position was vacant for the past three months.
