U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.25% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the added 0.25%.

The best performers of the session on the were Pearson PLC (LON:), which rose 3.35% or 41.50 points to trade at 1,279.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:) added 2.81% or 132.00 points to end at 4,835.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:) was up 2.64% or 18.00 points to 699.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were GSK plc (LON:), which fell 2.40% or 33.00 points to trade at 1,340.50 at the close. Segro Plc (LON:) declined 2.01% or 14.80 points to end at 720.00 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:) was down 1.89% or 49.00 points to 2,549.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 914 to 858 and 651 ended unchanged.

Shares in Pearson PLC (LON:) rose to 5-year highs; up 3.35% or 41.50 to 1,279.00. Shares in Segro Plc (LON:) fell to 52-week lows; losing 2.01% or 14.80 to 720.00.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.43% or 38.96 to $2,757.36 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.00% or 1.37 to hit $69.96 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.51% or 1.09 to trade at $73.28 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.12% to 0.82.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 106.26.
