Tamedia staff are staging a one-hour walkout in the newsrooms
Keystone-SDA
Staff at Swiss media house Tamedia went on strike for an hour on Thursday morning to protest against 41 redundancies, including those of two trade union representatives within the editorial teams.
The offices in Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Bern and Basel were affected.
From 11am, the walkout was intended to be nationwide, involving both the French-speaking and German-speaking editorial teams within the group. In French-speaking Switzerland, this affects staff at the editorial offices of 24 heures, La Tribune de Genève, Le Matin Dimanche, Femina and Bilan.

Staff “condemn redundancies in general and the unfair dismissal of two of their representatives by management. These dismissals come in the midst of a standoff with management over the cost-cutting measures implemented by Tamedia, and constitute retaliatory measures against those who are defending their interests”, wrote the Tamedia Staff Associations in French-speaking Switzerland.
On Tuesday, they voted in favour of a motion of no confidence in Tamedia’s management, with 77 votes in favour, two against and four abstentions.
