Netflix wins Spain TV rights for 2030 World Cup

Streaming platform Netflix will show every match of the 2030 World Cup to audiences in Spain and Andorra, the entertainment giants announced Tuesday.

“(We) will offer all 104 matches of the world’s biggest football competition live,” Netflix said in a statement.

Spain, the reigning champions, will co-host the 2030 World Cup with Portugal and Morocco, while Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay will also hold matches to celebrate the tournament’s centenary.

“As part of the agreement, one game per match-day will be available to watch for free in Spain,” said Netflix in a statement.

A national free-to-air television channel will also show all of Spain’s games and the final among other matches, the streaming platform confirmed.

Spanish watchdog files complaint against Engel & Völkers

Spain’s Consumers and Users Organisation (OCU) has filed a complaint with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs against international real estate agency Engel & Völkers, for forcing potential tenants to pay for a service which has been contracted by the landlord.

OCU argues that this constitutes a violation of the Urban Leases Law (LAU). The law states that real estate management and contract creation expenses may not be passed on to the tenant, either directly or indirectly.

The complaint is based on the document Engel & Völkers requires potential tenants to sign, charging them for property management services such as searching for homes and organising viewings.

IMF projects faster economic growth for Spain than US, France and Italy

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reviewed its growth forecast for the Spanish economy and has increased it by four-tenths of a percentage point to 2.5 percent, more than double the projected growth for the Eurozone, which it has increased by two-tenths of a percentage point to 1.1 percent this year.

The Spanish economy is also expected grow faster than the United States, by two-tenths of a percentage point. The IMF estimates that the US will increase its GDP by 2.3 percent.

Spain will also grow three times faster than France and Italy, where GDP growth is not expected to reach 1 percent in 2026.

Workers’ unions propose raising minimum wage to €1,307 per month

Spain two main trade unions UGT and CCOO have called on the Spanish government to raise the minimum wage by seven percent.

If the unions’ proposal is approved, the legal minimum wage in Spain would reach €1,307 gross per month, across 14 payments. This would equal an increase of €85.50 per month compared to the €1,221 it is currently.

As a result, the annual minimum wage would increase to €18,290 gross annually.

UGT General Secretary Pepe Álvarez justified the proposal by stating that it is necessary to offset the increase in consumer prices that have occurred since the last increase was approved in February of this year.

Since Pedro Sánchez’s Socialist government came to power in 2018, Spain’s national minimum wage (Salario Mínimo Interprofesional, or SMI) has increased by 66 percent, rising from €735 per month to €1,221 per month.
