Swiss petrol prices fall slightly from their record-high levels; Zurich cracks down on Airbnbs in residential areas to reclaim housing; and more news in our roundup this Tuesday.

Petrol prices fall slightly from their record-high levels

Fuel prices at Swiss service stations are no longer rising, at least for the time being.

According to the latest figures from the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS), the price per litre at the pump has dropped slightly since hitting a yearly high in mid-September.

Based on the most recently published TCS data, the average price across Switzerland for a litre of Unleaded 95 is currently 2.11 francs – 3 cents less than just over three weeks ago.

The price for Unleaded 98 is also down by 3 cents, having fallen to 2.22 francs, while diesel costs an average of 2.40 francs per litre—6 cents below the yearly peak.

Zurich cracks down on Airbnbs in residential areas to reclaim housing for local residents

To curb the housing shortage, Zurich is imposing new rules on Airbnb rentals in residential areas.

The new regulations do not completely ban Airbnbs but impose stricter controls on such short-term rentals.

Through this partial ban, the city aims to create more affordable housing for its own residents.

However, Airbnb Switzerland disputes the notion that these rentals contribute to the city’s housing shortage. “Airbnb has no significant impact on housing availability or affordability,” the company said.

Swiss swimming pools seek to  ban ‘smart’ glasses from their premises

The Swiss Pool Attendants’ Association, the Association of Indoor and Outdoor Pools, and the Swiss Sauna Association are sounding the alarm about the increasing prevalence of camera glasses, which threaten privacy in pools and and changing areas.

They argue that as the miniature cameras are inconspicuous, photos and videos can be taken without anyone noticing.

The associations are therefore calling on cities and municipalities to update their pool regulations, banning the use of optical devices with recording functions throughout the entire facility.

Residential property prices in Switzerland continue to rise

In the third quarter of 2026, prices for single-family homes increased by 2 percent, while those for condominiums went up by 1.7 percent, according to the Raiffeisen Transaction Price Index published on Monday.

Compared to the same quarter last year, prices for single-family homes rose by 3.6 percent and those for condominiums by 5.9 percent.

Price trends varied by region: For single-family homes, Zurich (+4.8 percent) and Western Switzerland (+4.6 percent) recorded the strongest gains over the course of the year.

The increase was a bit modest in the south (+3.3 percent) and east (+3.5 percent).
