Serbia Honors ‘Butcher Of Bosnia’ Ratko Mladic, Drawing Outrage Over Glorification

Thousands attended the Belgrade funeral for convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic, who died while serving a life sentence for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. The public honors surrounding the burial of the former Bosnian Serb commander have angered survivors and relatives of victims of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, who say the continued glorification of Mladic is deeply painful and dangerous. He was convicted by The Hague tribunal for war crimes in Bosnia-Herzegovina and died in prison on August 27 at age 84. The funeral, held with state and military honors, has also been condemned EU and US officials.
