Spanish footballer Esther González Rodríguez has caused controversy after she deleted all photos of herself with her partner and their daughter, born in January, from her social media accounts.
The move came as she signed for the Al Qadisiyah team of Saudi Arabia.
The decision by González, one of the most prolific strikers in Spanish and international football, has sparked debates on social media, particularly among LGBTQ+ rights activists, who see it as capitulation to the restrictions imposed by the Arab country.
Saudi Arabia is pumping huge amounts of cash into its female football league currently, just as has done with the male league in recent years.
Despite having a notoriously poor reputation for women’s rights, there have reportedly been improvements in recent years, although human rights organisations say much remains to be done.

The flash flood that swept through an area between Nepal and Tibet on Wednesday has left more than 160 dead and 1,500 missing , including pilgrims and tourists, many of them foreigners.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has reported that there are at least four Spaniards who cannot be located.
Authorities are investigating what may have caused the flood of water, rocks and mud, although scientists believe that an ice slide on a Himalayan glacier may have been the origin.

Sánchez to be grilled in Congress on Ceuta crisis on September 3rd
Twenty-seven days after the mass entry of migrants into Ceuta, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has requested to appear before the Congress.
He will appear on September 3rd in an extraordinary plenary session, although Sánchez had proposed appearing on the 9th.
Parties across the political spectrum, including those who are the Socialists’ allies, have criticised the fact that the Spanish premier has taken so long to speak up about the worsening crisis in Ceuta.
