Obwohl ursprünglich aus dem Emmental im Berner Mittelland stammend, ist Herrn Emmentalers Familienzweig seit dem Jahr 1821 in Bayern ansässig. Seinen Nachnamen konnte der Clan behalten, da Emmentaler in der EU keine geschützte Ursprungsbezeichnung ist. Weitere Abkömmlinge der Berner Sippe finden sich etwa im sibirischen Altai-Gebirge, wo sie sich ihre Grosslöchrigkeit bis heute erhalten haben.
