Chennai-based real estate major G Square Housing has sent a representation to the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly on Thursday, requesting him to remove the mentions made of the company in the House from its records.
This comes after the real estate major’s name featured in a heated war of words between the ruling TVK and opposition DMK on the floor of the assembly on Tuesday, regarding to its business interests in Parandur and alleged close links with the DMK.
We have sent a letter to the Speaker of the House giving proof of the company’s origin and ownership, We have requested him to urge the members who spoke about the company to refrain from making such claims in the future without evidence and also to remove mention of the company from the records of the House, Bala Ramajayam, founder and MD, G Square, told media persons on Thursday.
Challenging allegations
The company said it will decide on next steps, including legal options, after response from the Speaker.
“No one associated with me or the company -including my family or any group companies- has any land ownership in Parandur or surrounding regions,” Ramajayam said, categorically, challenging those making allegations to show evidence.
He also demanded any proof for Sabareesan’s involvement or linkages to the company. “I will give up 50 per cent share in the company if anyone can show any such proof,” he added.
Earlier on Tuesday, while speaking about the Parandur airport project in the assembly, Tamil Nadu law minister Nirmal Kumar said “G Square Maapilai” while referring to people who were allegedly benefitting from the Parandur proposal.
Further, PWD minister and senior TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna said that the company, which has been alleged to have close links with DMK and Stalin’s son-in-law Sabareesan, had purchased land around Parandur, making the project important for the party.
Business contribution
“We have about ₹10,000 crore worth land stock wherein customers have trusted us and signed up and support thousands of employees. Such allegations destroy our work over the years,” he added. Our business has contributed about ₹3,000 crore stamp duty revenue for the State and we do business in a clean fashion, he said.
Tracing the company’s origins and growth journey in the press conference, Ramajayam said they started off as a private land aggregator in 2012 and have facilitated close to 5,000 acres of land deals between 2011 and 2021 for various large corporates. We did this smoothly without any allegations of wrong doing and legal problems, he said.
However, post Covid, once we moved to B2C model and saw fast growth and expansion, we have started facing false rumours and even enforcement actions and raids due to actions by “certain competition,” he added.
