Skater injured at the Youth Olympic Games: five defendants to stand trial

A Swiss court will examine who was responsible for an accident that nearly cost a Russian figure skater her life during a rehearsal for the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne in 2020.
The skater, suspended from a hoop, fell approximately four metres onto the ice at the Vaudoise Arena in Switzerland.
An investigation blamed the incorrect installation of a winch used to hoist her into the air. But the report did not identify any human negligence.
It is now up to the Lausanne Magistrates’ Court to try five defendants who may have acted negligently. They are the victim’s husband and four managers from a German-speaking Swiss events company.
All face charges of causing grievous bodily harm through negligence.
