A new international night train will stop at several Swiss stations

Despite an initial delay, the new night train service between Brussels and Milan will commence in September 2026, with several stops in Switzerland as well.

The train, aptly called the European Sleeper, has its headquarters in Utrecht, the Netherlands. 

 

What will be its itinerary?

 

Departures from Brussels to Milan take place on Monday, Thursday and Saturday evenings; arrival in Zurich is scheduled for the following morning, at 6:42 am.

The next stop on Swiss soil will be at Arth Goldau canton Schwyz (7:25 am), Göschenen (Uri) at 8:25 am, Bellinzona (Ticino), 9:28 am, Lugano (Ticino), 9:45 am, and Chiasso (Ticino), at 10:15 am.

From there, it will cross the border into Italy, arriving in Milan (via Como San Giovanni) at 11:30 am.

On the return journey, the train will arrive in Chasso from Milan at 7 pm, and then proceed, in the reverse. order, to Lugano (7:26 pm), Bellinzona (7:25), Göschenen (8:45 pm), Arth Goldau (9:45 pm), arriving in Zurich at 10:35 pm.

 

From there, the train goes directly to Cologne in Germany.

When will the tickets be available and  how much do they cost?

Tickets went on sale on March 17th on the company’s site.

Prices depend on the chosen category.

For instance, a seat in the cheapest category costs €29.99 per person per journey (approximately 27 francs).

A berth in a Classic compartment is available from €49.99 (45 francs); this fare includes the ticket, booking, luggage transport, and bedding.

Travellers opting for a compartment seat in the Comfort Standard or Comfort Plus categories will pay €99.99 (90 francs) or €129.99 (117 francs), respectively; breakfast is included in the latter category.
