Nestlé Australia, the producer of Allen’s lollies, has confirmed that Allen’s Black Cats have been removed from supermarket shelves.
The removal of the sweet treat, which has often been described as controversial and divisive, has led to a flood of reactions on social media.
Allen’s Black Cats Are No Longer in Supermarkets
According to a report by nine.com.au, multiple Reddit users have posted about how difficult it has been to find Allen’s Black Cats in the supermarket.
“Has anyone spotted them in store? I asked at my local, and was told they’d be back but they’re no where to be found,” one Reddit post reads.
While some replies indicated where the sweet treats could be found, reports have confirmed that they have indeed been axed by Nestlé Australia.
Will Allen’s Black Cats Return?
However, news.com.au notes in its report that the removal might not be a permanent thing.
Nestlé Australia’s Shannon Wright, who is the head of marketing in confectionery, said that “Black Cats haven’t gone anywhere — fans can still enjoy them in the Allen’s Party Mix, where they remain a firm favourite.”
Wright further explained that the company is “looking for the right moment to bring Black Cats back as a single‑flavour pack, and if fans want to see them return, we’re always listening on our socials — so let us know.”
nine.com.au also notes that this is not the first time that Allen’s Black Cats have been discontinued.
These aniseed-flavoured lollies were first produced in 1961, but it was not until 2020 when they were finally sold as a single product due to popular demand.
