AirHelp’s annual report on air punctuality has revealed that in 2025, 25.69 percent of flights leaving from Spanish airports suffered delays or cancellations.

In 2025, over 950,000 flights took off from Spanish airports, carrying nearly 140 million passengers. Of these, 34 million travellers experienced flight delays or cancellations.

According to AirHelp, the online service that allows airline passengers to seek compensation for flight cancellations, almost 11 million have been able to claim financial reimbursement.

Compared to 2024, air traffic in Spain has remained at similar levels, with only 1,500 fewer flights this year.

Punctuality has actually improved by 1.3 percent.

Asturias Airport came out on top for the most punctual flights, meeting its proposed schedules for 89 percent of flights, with nearly 840,000 passengers. It’s worth keeping in mind though that Asturias airport only serves 19 destinations operated by just five airlines.

Bilbao also ranks as one of the most punctual airports in Spain. Of the more than 3 million passengers who flew from the Basque city, only 14.3 percent faced delays.

At the other end of the table Palma de Mallorca is the third airport in Spain where flights are delayed the most. A total 34 percent of flights had issues there, affecting more than 5 million passengers.

This is followed Reus in Catalonia, with 30.8 percent, and Murcia, with 28.5 percent.

Madrid’s Barajas airport and Barcelona’s El Prat have punctuality rates of 77.1 percent and 76.9 percent, respectively.

Unsurprisingly, it was the summer months that experienced highest volume of air traffic and also the highest rates of disruptions.

The months of July, August, and September were the worst, followed by October.

The day with most disruptions was July 3rd, due to an air traffic controllers’ strike in France that led to the cancellation of nearly one hundred flights in Spain.

When it comes to Europe as a whole Norway, Sweden, and Estonia were best when it comes to punctuality of flights. They all experienced disruption rates below 18 percent.

On the other hand, Portugal was the worst for impunctuality rate with 35.6 percent.

Other countries with a bad record were Greece with 33.2 percent of flight disrupted and 29.6 percent in France.

In terms of passenger volume, Spain is the European country with the most recorded journeys, second only to the United Kingdom in Europe.
