Veteran Malayalam film actor, director, screenwriter and producer Sreenivasan passed away in Kochi on Saturday morning. He was 69 and had been undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness.

With a career spanning over five decades, Sreenivasan acted in more than 250 films and was widely acclaimed for his sharp satire, humour and socially relevant storytelling, which helped shape modern Malayalam cinema.

A multiple-awards winner, he received National Film Awards, Kerala State Film Awards, Filmfare Awards South and several lifetime achievement honours. He is survived by his wife Vimala and sons Vineeth and Dhyan Sreenivasan, both noted actors and filmmakers.
