The Tourism Authority of Thailand launched new Japan-Bangkok routes with Thai AirAsia X and Thai Lion Air, boosting tourism. Focused on attracting Millennial and Gen Z travelers, they anticipate surpassing one million Japanese visitors in 2025.

Enhanced Connectivity with Japan

In December 2025, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) celebrated a significant enhancement in regional connectivity with the inauguration of new routes by Thai AirAsia X and Thai Lion Air. These routes, connecting Sendai, Hokkaido, and Osaka to Bangkok, are set to boost tourism, especially during the year-end. This development aims to tap into one of Thailand’s most valuable international markets and stimulate travel demand, offering greater short-haul access into the country.

Strategic Partnerships and Market Expansion

Miss Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia and the South Pacific, emphasized the importance of these new links. They reflect a strong confidence in Thailand’s tourism prospects, particularly attracting younger Japanese travelers. By collaborating with airlines to expand air access, TAT focuses on delivering high-quality experiences that address the evolving preferences of Millennials and Gen Z visitors, while maintaining robust connections with traditional market segments.

Continued Growth and Future Prospects

The introduction of these routes coincides with Thailand’s strategic initiatives, like the Enjoy Training in Thailand program, promoting the country as a warm-weather training destination. In 2025, Thai AirAsia X began a four-times-weekly service from Sendai, while Thai Lion Air launched routes from Hokkaido and Osaka. This expanded connectivity supports the goal of surpassing one million Japanese arrivals, building on 985,612 visitors recorded from January to November 2025, with popular destinations including Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai.
