For 3 1/2 years, Bucha resident Serhiy Akhmetov was held in Russian captivity at various locations. He was detained in the Ukrainian city in March 2022 while trying to evacuate through a “green corridor.”
This is his story of captivity, how he learned in a penal colony about Ukrainian advances into the Kursk region, and how Red Cross food parcels offered rare clues about what was happening back home.
