Switzerland’s new train (SBB) timetable, which will go into effect on December 14th, will bring some noticeable improvements in public transport for next year.
Not only will the train schedule change, but also that of the entire public transport network, so it will be coordinated with the trains’ arrival and departure times at all stations throughout Switzerland.
Among the most important changes to go into effect on the domestic network is that services between Bern and Zurich will be further expanded – concretely, an additional InterCity train will now stop in Bern-Wankdorf in the afternoon. Departure is at 4:13 pm, arriving at Zurich HB at 5:10 pm.
This will allow commuters from the east of Bern to reach Zurich faster.

Additionally, a continuous half-hourly service with the InterCity 3 will be introduced on the Chur–Zurich route. Four trains will now run daily in each direction.
On weekends, two S15 trains will be extended from Rapperswil to Chur, and in the evening they will run back to Niederweningen.
The IR35 will also stop in Flums between Bern and Chur – this will improve access to the Sarganserland region.

New night trains
Following multiple trial runs throughout the spring and fall, the SBB will add a Bern-Zurich-Winterthur nightime train on weekends.
The night connections will be operating most Friday and Saturday nights, departing from Winterthur at 1:40 am and arriving in Bern at 3:04 am.
A train will also leave Bern at 3 am and arrive in Winterthur at 4:32 am.
The route will also stop at Zurich Airport, making it a convenient choice for travellers with early morning flights. The night train will arrive at the airport at 4:16 am.
Already, night trains run between Fribourg-Lausanne and Geneva Airport, Sion and Geneva Airport, and Biel-Lausanne and Geneva Airport on most weekends.
The SBB will decide in 2026 whether it will continue to offer a national nighttime train service.
The company also has plans to introduce round-the-clock weekend service between Zurich and Geneva, Olten and Basel, Bern and Thun, Lausanne and Sion, and Zurich and Chur.

Also: a cross-border night connection
Additionally, there will also be a direct cross-border train between Geneva Airport and neighbouring France.
Specifically, from December 14th, the L7 line of the Léman Express train will depart from Annemasse at 3:56 am, arriving at the airport at 4:20 am.
Other nighttime connections on this route are also scheduled using the RL4 trains.
