Protesters clash with security at COP30 venue in Brazil

Scuffles between protesters and UN security staff broke out at the COP30 climate talks in Belém, Brazil on Tuesday night.

Some demonstrators appeared to be wearing traditional Brazilian indigenous dress and others waved flags reading “our land is not for sale”.

Security forces tried to stop the demonstrators entering the compound, creating a bottleneck at the entrance.

Delegates from nearly 200 countries are attending the UN climate talks this week in Belém, which is on the edge of the Amazon rainforest.
