Vladimir Putin’s forces have relentlessly attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure as temperatures drop during every fall and winter since the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion began.
“It is precisely the civilian and energy infrastructure that is the main target of Russia’s strikes ahead of the heating season. Together, we can protect people from this terror,” Zelenskyy said, urging “decisive action” from the U.S., Europe and the G7 — including the delivery of air defense systems and enforcing sanctions.
“In Kyiv, repair crews are working to restore power and water supply. Power outages have been reported in the Kyiv, Donetsk, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Odesa and Dnipro regions,” Zelenskyy added.
The DTEK group, Ukraine’s largest private energy firm, said Friday that Russian strikes hit its power stations for the third time this week, injuring one worker and severely damaging equipment.
