The Tourism Authority of Thailand reaffirms commitment to sustainable tourism via the Sustainable Tourism Goals and STAR initiative, collaborating globally to enhance cultural preservation, environmental stewardship, and community wellbeing.

Thailand’s Commitment to Sustainable Tourism

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is leading in sustainable tourism by integrating its 17 Sustainable Tourism Goals (STGs) and the Sustainable Tourism Acceleration Rating (STAR). This initiative collaborates with local and global partners to create enduring value for people, the planet, and prosperity. According to TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, sustainability in tourism is pivotal in preserving culture, protecting nature, and uplifting communities.

Innovations and Recognitions

Introduced in 2023, STGs align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing governance, socio-economic impact, cultural preservation, and environmental responsibility. The STAR initiative assesses tourism operators on their sustainability achievements, involving over 2,300 businesses by 2025. Complementary certifications like the Trusted Thailand Stamp enhance global confidence in Thailand as a quality destination.

Global Collaborations and Future Vision

TAT aims to redefine tourism through The New Thailand Vision 2026 and STGs 2030, promoting quality, value-driven growth. Collaborations with international networks, like the Meaningful Thailand programme, highlight Thailand’s sustainable offerings. According to Ms. Thapanee, these partnerships inspire the global industry to embrace sustainability as a shared responsibility, positioning Thailand as a model for responsible tourism.
