India has been recognised by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for strengthening its aviation safety oversight system.
Accordingly, the country has been awarded the ‘ICAO Council President Certificate’.
In a formal communication addressed to the Director General, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano conveyed that the award would be presented to India at the 42nd session of the ICAO assembly at the organisation’s headquarters in Montréal.
According to ICAO, the council president certificate is awarded to states that demonstrate significant progress in enhancing their aviation safety oversight capabilities through objective and transparent criteria.
The global aviation body highlighted India’s improvement in the effective implementation (EI) of ICAO’s ‘Standards and Recommended Practices’ (SARPs) under its ‘Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme–Continuous Monitoring Approach’ (USOAP CMA).
The recognition forms part of ‘ICAO’s No Country Left Behind’ initiative, now elevated to a strategic goal.
