Out of the 77 destinations where the low-cost airline flies to from Switzerland’s Basel EuroAirport, 48 will be suspended in April and May 2026.
The remaining 29 destinations – Easyjet’s most important routes from Basel – will remain on the airline’s timetable during the renovation.
They include London Gatwick, Hamburg, Nice, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona.
Destinations such as Berlin, Madrid, Budapest and Bastia will also be retained, Easyjet, the main airline at the EuroAirport, said.
On the other hand, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Agadir in Morocco, Larnaca in Cyprus, and Reykjavik in Iceland are among the destinations that are being temporarily suspended.
Will the runway work affect other airlines as well?
Dozens of other airlines, including Air France, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, and Lufthansa, fly to and out of EuroAirport.
According to airport spokesperson Manuela Witzig, these and other carriers are likely to remain active in Basel, but with a reduced flight schedule as well during the renovation phase.
More information about the schedules during the renovation phase will be released “by mid-October,” she said.
How will planes be able to take off and land if the runway is closed?
That is a very pertinent question.
The main, four-kilometre-long runway, which handles 97 percent of the airport’s traffic, will undergo renovation.
During this period, pilots will still be able to use the second – and only other runway – at EuroAirport.
It is only 1,715 metres long, meaning that only small or medium-sized aircraft can land or take off from it.
