Sánchez and Starmer to meet in London to discuss Gibraltar

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will travel to London this Wednesday to meet with his British counterpart Keir Starmer at Downing Street.

They will preside over the signing of a strategic collaboration agreement between the two countries covering various matters.

Top of the agenda will be discussions over getting rid of the border crossing between Gibraltar and Spain in January 2026, part of a deal on The Rock’s post-Brexit status which was initially agreed on together with the EU last June.

Ryanair to announce which flight routes to Spain it cuts

Low-cost airline Ryanair will hold a press conference in Madrid this Wednesday to announce which Spanish regional airports will be hit by the slashing of flight routes that will reduce Ryanair passenger numbers to and from Spain by 1 million.

This follows a similar flight route axing at the start of the year which affected other small airports such as Jerez, Valladolid, Asturias, Santiago, Vigo and Zaragoza; some of which are likely to be hit again.

Spanish police bust gang that organised fake marriages to get foreigners’ residency

Spanish police have broken up a criminal gang in Barcelona that organized fake marriages between Spanish women and foreign men in Spain for them to get residence permits.

The operation, which resulted in 15 arrests, uncovered a criminal network that exploited vulnerable women to obtain financial benefits and fraudulently regularize immigrant status.

According to Barcelona City Council, the modus operandi consisted of registering foreign men with Spanish women as partners , presenting themselves as stable partners before a notary.

With this documentation, they accessed the official registry and used this status to initiate residency applications under the status of EU family member or by claiming exceptional circumstances of family ties.

Authorities also confirmed that several of these women were unaware they were listed as partners of these men.

Heat returns to Spain

Following cooler weather in much of Spain over the past few days which brought the mercury below 30C in many big cities, temperatures are set to go up again on Tuesday and surpass 35C on Wednesday.

However, Catalonia and the Valencian Community are expected to have storms on Tuesday, while Galicia in northwest Spain will experience strong winds and rain until Thursday.
